Using the Law as a Tool to Advance Digital Accessibility

Posted on:

This year’s 2017 Digital Accessibility Legal Update presentation at CSUN was a huge success. Prominent disability attorneys Lainey Feingold of the Law Office of Lainey Feingold and Linda Dardarian of Goldstein, Borgen, Dardarian & Ho gave a standing-room only presentation that was so successful, it required an encore the next day. SSB BART Group was honored to host this repeat presentation in our showcase suite. The Law as a Tool The presenters spoke about using the law as a tool to make websites accessible to everyone. One of the most important tools is using the laws that are already in… Read More

The Maker Movement and Future Awesomeness for Accessibility

Posted on:

While at the CSUN conference in March, I attended many great sessions about a wide range of topics, which I’ll be posting about in the future. The first of these I’d like to talk about was regarding the Maker Movement, which I had sort of heard about but hadn’t really given much thought in the past. Obviously, that’s where people make stuff, simple things like arts and crafts…case solved! Elementary my dear Watson. Boy was I wrong. The Maker Movement The Maker Movement is a global phenomenon, which encompasses both physical and virtual spaces in all industries and sectors of… Read More

Diving into the Deep End: A Discussion on SVG, Angular, and Accessibility

Posted on:

Recently I had the pleasure and privilege of attending my first Annual International Technology and Persons with Disabilities conference, commonly referred to as CSUN. CSUN is a fabulous opportunity to learn from, network with and engage other practitioners in the accessibility and assistive technology fields. I had a wonderful time connecting with friends – both old and new – and learning how each of them strives to use technology to empower people with disabilities. The first session I attended was entitled Diving into the Deep End: A Discussion on SVG, Angular, and Accessibility, presented by the fine Simply Accessible team…. Read More

AT&T, Accessibility and You – How They Do It At T

At CSUN this year I had the pleasure of attending a talk titled “Ensuring Accessibility is Considered Throughout the Lifecycle” by Oleg Vasilyev and William Lawrence of AT&T.  (Apologies, guys, I know I didn’t get the talk title quite right.)  Oleg and William discussed AT&T’s Corporate Accessibility Technology Office (CATO) and the leading efforts of AT&T in the accessibility space.  The talk provided a variety of great observations and notes – thanks to Oleg and William for delivering it.  A few points that I found of interest: Develop and manage a front door process for accessibility.  Make sure that all… Read More

If Everything is Urgent, Nothing is Urgent

AT CSUN 2015 I had the pleasure of attending many great sessions. As an Accessibility Consultant myself, a quote from the session titled “Targeting an Exceptional Online Shopping Experience” really resonated with me; “if everything is urgent, nothing is urgent”. Accessibility Consultants for Target.com presented a mature testing and development approach to digital accessibility within an agile environment.   The team showcased the importance and success of partnering with the user experience (UX) teams within the organization through support and consultation ranging from wireframe reviews, pattern libraries and assistive technology testing to name a few. It is a valiant trait of… Read More
