Accessibility Consultant

The Accessibility Consultant will perform a variety of consultative and assessment activities for clients in the greater DC area. The Accessibility Consultant will work directly to deliver formal assessments, maintain accessibility standards and deliver onsite consultative advice for SSB's client base.

Qualifications
The Accessibility Consultant will be a key player in SSB's management team and may grow into a variety of different rolls in SSB's client services organization. SSB's culture requires a disciplined self-starter with lots of energy and high integrity. This position assumes 3 or more years of experience in a technical consulting role. Specific qualifications are listed below:

  • Required Skills
    • 3+ years experience working in technical consulting position.
    • Technical familiarity with web based technologies including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Flash, PDF and electronic document creation and publishing processes
    • Exceptional written and verbal skills
    • Technical familiarity with software development lifecycle and systems integration processes
    • BS or relevant degree in computer programming or management information systems
  • Desired Skills
    • Familiarity with relevant accessibility standards including WCAG, Section 508 and related standards is a plus but not required
    • Familiarity with assistive technologies including JAWS, Window-Eyes, Dragon Dictate, MAGic and / or ZoomText

Responsibilities
Assessment Delivery. The Accessibility Consultant will manage the delivery of SSB assessment projects. The Accessibility Consultant will utilize SSB's standard Assessment Methodology for delivery. This will include tasks relating to:

  • Groundwork Activities
    • Creating use cases for an IT System
    • Creating a test set for an IT System
    • Managing customer review and approval of groundwork test set
  • Testing
    • Performing manual, assistive technology, or automated tests
    • Inputting the results from testing into the SSB reporting system
  • Reporting
    • Analysis of test results
    • Creation of specific recommendations for the customer
    • Outlining and writing findings sections of audits and assessments
    • Creation and delivery of findings presentation
  • Documentation
    • Preparation of Accessibility Statements for sites
    • Preparation of VPATs for products
